If you ask a child what they’re most excited about this holiday season they’re likely to tell you about all the gifts they’re expecting to receive. The sad reality is that not all children will be getting toys and games. Thankfully, there are great programs like Toys for Tots whose sole purpose is to ensure that every child gets a gift during this special time of year.
This holiday season, House to Home Solutions was proud to partner with the Potomac Porsche Club of America by hosting two drop-off times for Toys for Tots. In total, we collected more than 250 toys and cash donations. All donations will support the holiday needs of children in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
Toys for Tots began in 1947 as the brain child of Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks. Actually, it was his wife, Diane, who was the real inspiration. She had a few handcrafted dolls and asked Bill to deliver them to an agency that supports children in need. As a personal friend and as a favor to Bill, Walt Disney designed the first Toys for Tots poster which included a miniature three-car train that was subsequently adopted as the Toys for Tots logo. Presently, the Marine Toys for Tots Program distributes an average of 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children annually.
