At House to Home Solutions, we’re passionate about our award-winning design/build home renovations in Maryland. But for our CEO, Daniel Carrero, it’s not just about creating beautiful spaces. He’s deeply invested in fostering the next generation of skilled tradespeople. By supporting local school programs and advocating for career paths in the trades, Daniel actively ensures that young people know about the many opportunities and value of hands-on professions.

The residential construction industry is brimming with opportunity, yet it faces a major challenge: a nationwide shortage of skilled tradespeople. Part of the issue is a common misconception that construction jobs are solely about heavy lifting and hands-on physical work. In reality, this field offers a broad spectrum of careers, including roles in design, drafting, architecture, engineering, sales, and project management—careers that demand creativity, precision, and people skills. Whether a young person is planning on college or aiming to learn in the field, the industry has a role for nearly every interest and skill set.

Recently, Daniel attended two events that exemplify his commitment to guiding students toward residential construction trade careers.

Thomas Edison Trade School Open House

Representing the Professional Remodeling Organization (PRO), Daniel attended the Thomas Edison High School of Technology Open House, an annual event designed to introduce high school students—and their families—to the many rewarding career paths available in the trades. More than 1,000 students toured the school, met with teachers, spoke to current students, and connected with trade partners. However, the construction trades had fewer visitors showing interest in that field.

Despite this challenge, Daniel and PRO remain committed to raising awareness of the residential construction trades. The organization sees this as an opportunity to engage directly with students and potential students by offering mentorships, guest speaking events, and even scholarships for those interested in trade programs.

Daniel left the open house with a renewed commitment to inspiring more students to consider the trades. He’s working with PRO to expand support for this vital field. The goal is to show young people and their families the many rewarding career possibilities in residential construction.

Construction Trades Foundation Board Meeting

Daniel’s advocacy continued at a recent Construction Trades Foundation Board Meeting, where he joined other leaders to discuss the Construction Trades Program within Montgomery County Public Schools. This foundation manages the program, ensuring it offers valuable skills and insights to students across the county.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity for Daniel to understand the program’s current impact and identify ways that he and the PRO organization can further support its mission. He recognized that there’s more that industry leaders like him can do to bolster student engagement, provide real-world insights, and strengthen program resources. By harnessing the PRO team and resources, Daniel and others hope to bring additional value to the program through hands-on support, expanded mentorship opportunities, and potentially even new avenues for financial assistance.

Creating a Legacy in the Trades

For Daniel, building a thriving trades workforce is more than just filling jobs; it’s about creating a sustainable career path for young people interested in these fields. His involvement in these events and organizations highlights his commitment to preparing and inspiring future trades professionals who can carry on the legacy of skilled craftsmanship.

Through initiatives like these, House to Home Solutions aims to leave a lasting impact on the industry and the community, supporting a new generation of enthusiastic designers, architects, builders, and other construction tradespeople ready to transform homeowner dreams into spaces that delight.
