Spring is upon us! As we start thinking ahead to impending warmer times, this month we wrap up our two-part series on new products and hot trends for 2023 with five new innovations and options for the exterior of your home.
- Utilization of sustainable materials. A continuing trend we are seeing is the increased use of more sustainable materials - both in construction and landscaping. Xeriscaped yards covered with materials such as gravel (rather than grass), are picking up steam as they combine low-maintenance upkeep with minimal need for irrigation, which is in turn more environmentally friendly.
- Earth-tone colors. Last month we mentioned that cabinetry colors are moving away from blues and grays. We are seeing this with exterior paint choices as well. Benjamin Moore’s colors for 2023 feature several earth-inspired tones which emit a warm and cozy look to your home that is more in touch with nature. And if you have shutters, or are thinking of installing them, choosing the right accent color can elicit increased curb appeal.
- Stylish siding options are available, too. No longer do you have to rely on paint alone to change the look and feel of the exterior of your home. Modern looks such as vertical and narrow siding and wood-tone siding are gaining popularity. Another trend we’re seeing is the mixing and matching of different sidings. While this isn’t entirely new, we’re seeing this trend especially in more contemporary homes. Mixing and matching these varieties enable you to differentiate not only the color but also the texture from that of your neighbors’ homes.
- Innovations in decking support. Decks are seeing some new innovations in the way of their support structures. Firms such as Fortress Decking are changing the game by offering steel deck framing in lieu of pressure-treated wood. This method is faster to erect and uses fewer support posts, opening the space beneath for entertaining or storage.
- Decks are getting a facelift, too. Cable railing offered by companies such as Feeney Railing Systems is also a hot item. Not only do cable systems offer a sleek look in the way of stainless steel and last longer than their traditional wooden counterpart, they are now available in colors and provide a cleaner, more modern look.
If you are feeling overwhelmed and struggling to figure out where to start your exterior remodel, rest assured, that is normal. Keep in mind that you do not have to have all the answers prior to starting the remodeling process. That is the advantage that a professional and experienced design-build firm brings to the table.
